Probably my "best" or better of my writing is my research paper. It was my favorite to write since we got to chose our own topic and that allowed me to chose something i am really passionate about, which is food. My research paper was probably one of the harder assignments that has been assigned during this class becase sooo much research went into it and it was hard deciphering whether or not a source was scholarly. Obviously i still have a lot of work to do before i turn the final draft in in the portfolio but so far im pretty happy with it.

Krakauer feel short on his research when it came to the reason why Chris actually die. I will defend him by saying that this is hard to do research on because no one will really ever know what happened out there besides Chris. According to discussion in class on Tuesday it wasnt mold on the potato seeds that killed Chris, and apparently Krakauer knew of this by the time he was publishing his book. So this seems like Krakauer was letting his personal opinion of Chris affect the actual truth of the situation.

research paper

My primary source for my research paper is the Jungle written by Upton Sinclair. I didnt chose this book because of me gen ed class or whatever i actually thought that i was going to be one of the few to do this topic haha i guess i wasnt as clever as i thought. I think that im going to have a unique spin on my paper though because im going further into the meat industry as a whole as well as talking about slaughterhouses. I used to be a vegetarian for many of the reasons that i have included in my research so i find my topic to be avery interesting topic. Sinclair's novel brought attention to America that the meat being produced was not sanitary and there were many faults in the slaughterhouses, so my goal for my paper is to bring attention to the fact that there are still issues today with the meat industry and there needs to be a change.

In the recent essay we just wrote the close reading epigraphs i would give it a medium. I feel that I had a basic argument but i could possible go deeper into the argument and maybe articulate it in a less repetative way. I also think my essay could be more organized. I want to analyze the epigraphs deeper as well by picking out specific words and phrases more. Now realizing how much I can adjust I may just give myself a low grading lol.

I believe that the other stories that Krakauer included hindered his story telling. It made Chris seem less unique and therefore it made him relatable to those other people who in my opinion had something off with them. Though he showed that there were differences in the situations and that Chris was more mentally sane than some it still made Chris relatable to them which hindered the image he wants to project of Chris. The one story in particular that I can remember and stuck to me was the one about the guy who survived the wild but then didnt provide a way for himself to get home. He caused his own death because he didnt think ahead and figure out a way to get back from the wild when he was done, and when a plane flew by he unknowingly sent them away by giving the universal "I'm okay" signal. Clearly Krakauer was trying to show how he was unprepared, but in the end Chris died as well so the story made me compare Chris to the other guy and it changed how I view Chris. Originally i was on Chris's side in the way that i thought he was a romantic and idealised nature but since the chapters where Krakauer introduced the other stories I have begun to think less of Chris.

The Taylor Swift article solidified my opinions on Taylor Swift's music. I have always believed that it was immature, and the pictures and charts presented perfectly just how immature her music is. The chart that catagorized each of her songs with pictures of stars, moons, teardrops, and dreamy boys was a perfect representation of what Taylor Swifts music is all about. Though her music is immature it also has catchy beats so I would be lieing if I said I completely hate her music and never listen to it, but that doesnt take away from the fact that it is completely immature and irrelevant to reality. Her music is all about boys and how they completely alter a girls life and how girls lives are revolved around them. That isnt reality, at least not mine, and I hope not for any girls. The article provided good points and the pictures and charts were perfect representations of Taylor Swifts music.

I think that it is important to balance all three, pathos, logos, and ethos. If i had to choose the most important or most useful then i would have to say pathos. When trying to make an argument your point is always proven better if the other person can relate in someway or you appeal to their emotions because it is more personal. Getting emotions involved makes the point more powerful so it makes your argument better. Obviously though you cant just appeal to only emotions you have to use some facts and logic in your argument otherwise people wont believe you, so i would have to say that logos is the next most important. As i said before though i believe a balance of all three is critical. In my Lit essay i used majoirty of logos, in my McCandless essay i used more pathos to argue my beliefs. In revising i need to include a better balance of all three.
